This post is from a confront volume mail service. Sad I can't mail service pictures to GR. Carcass Island is part of the Falklands Islands and we were on an Antarctica cruise. On the afternoon of March 10, nosotros landed at Carcass Island. There was a seven kilometer walk to a Magellanic penguin colony. Liz stayed on the ship. The iii pictures merely before one of me at the cease are those of the colony and the nearby embankment where they went into the ocean hunting for nutrient. I was somewhat disappointed. I did run across some birds forth the mode. The guide would not let anyone get any closer to the penguins.
I landed at near 345pm and was told to be dorsum by 6pm. My watch battery had died the concluding solar day in Buenos Aires and I was unable to buy a replacement in Ushuaia. On previous landings, I stayed with my group, but this time my grouping passed me by and greeted me every bit they were coming back and I had not nonetheless reached the end point. I made information technology back about 630 to the caretaker house where they had cookies and block. The head guide was waiting for me at the gate to the firm. She said not to worry that I was belatedly and I should rest and take some cookies.
The final picture is of me with my cleaved clip on sunglasses. One of the guides, a German lady, peered at me very closely and said;"Y'all are lacking in spectacles."
I ended up riding dorsum on 1 of the final boats, half passengers, one-half guides.
I returned to the motel about 715 and Liz had gone to dinner at vii.

Fantastic! Sorry to hear you lot didn't become to see as many birds as you'd hoped, but what a corking adventure!

Sounds like a fun risk! And with cookies to boot :)
Barbara and Jennifer it was a great trip. Nosotros saw 4 dissimilar species of penguin(King, Rockhopper, Magellanic and Chinstrap) plus fur seals, Albatross and Caracarra birds. Also icebergs and glaciers. My GR profile picture show was taken on our only mainland Antarctica finish. See below for another fb post. Some thoughts on our Antarctica trip with Liz. Ships larger than 500 pax are not immune to land pax anywhere in Antarctica. Our send was rated 250 pax+ crew. We really had 237 pax aboard. The guides told us nosotros were extremely lucky to brand all our landings. Rough seas tin make landings impossible. Some trips in the past were only to brand half of their landings. But 100 pax were allowed on state at any one time.
Our transport coordinated with other ships so that we never saw another ship.
Some of the big cruise ships do prowl in Antarctic waters, but don't country anyone. Very few ships go to S. Georgia.
Nosotros had balmy seas throughout the trip except for a bit between S. Georgia and Falklands. The Drake passage was very mild, considering that information technology sometimes has twoscore-50 ft. waves.
Temps were in the 40s-50s.

Yous may not have noticed this, but Goodreads is changing its home page. In that location is currently a beta exam of the new page which tin can be reached by clicking on "new site blueprint" at the lesser of every folio. To return to the old design click on "one-time design" which is near the bottom of the right hand column (if your screen shows 3 columns) or the left mitt column (if your screen shows ii columns). The changes are explained in the GR weblog, but GR took downwards the banner announcement for the beta test that was up for a few days. If you want to leave feedback on the new page there is a green feedback push on the right of the new page. Also see this thread:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/evidence/...
I hate the new page!
OK, and so for anyone fed upward with all the depressing and miserable news from around the world, I recently did a standup gig that you lot might discover funny. The stress is on the word might there...
I used to practice standup one-act a lot, then took an extended break - in which wrote some books/short stories - but I'chiliad getting dorsum into information technology now.
Anyhow, it's not related to criminal offense (for some reason audiences actually don't discover murder that funny...!) simply as this is an off-topic thread, yous might want to take a look.

Modern My husband has just finished the first volume in a series -- I don't know who the author was (and didn't ask because he buys a lot of them on Kindle when they're on sale). Anyway, he read the entire thing, and right as the book was about to end, it said something along the lines of "and to detect out what happens, you accept to read book number two." I was flabbergasted -- has anyone else ever heard of this sort of matter?
Nothing like that but I read the 5th volume in a series that slammed to halt on a cliff-hanger that required you to buy the sixth ane to learn who got shot.I never found out because that stunt irked me and then much I never bought book six.

That'due south what I said!
It had improve exist a darn adept mystery with well written plots etc. because I would exist pissed off enough Non to read the side by side installment. It is a cheap and depression class manner to become people to read your books. If yous are good enough, the Readers will Come AND recommend y'all.

Information technology's a bit strange weather now in my country,Indonesia. Should be hot until finish of August only we just having rain well-nigh everyday and really scary one, flood is most everywhere. Actually non nice.
It's 75, humidity 63%, projected loftier 83 in western New York.
Finally broke a string of 7 90+ degree days here, but the humidity is still sky loftier.
Virtually 80 degrees here, but in that location is a pretty nice cakewalk.
We had a heatwave hither in the UK lasy week which coincided with me having flu, hilariously enough. Fortunately both have passed this week so its much more endurable... ;-)
(And 110 sounds like some kind of endurance test!)
Mod I experience similar I'm living in some sort of dystopian novel with this heat! Nosotros normally take pelting every solar day in summer at 3 pm; I don't even remember the last time it rained hither. Stephanie, you tin ship some rain my manner.
Oddly cool hither at 78 with humidity and clouds. nosotros'll be hot again later on today and in triple digits heat index past Tuesday. I'm only enjoying the intermission today.
Everyone is welcome to move to western New York, mild summers and variable winters.
108 right now here. You know it is going to exist a hot mean solar day when it is over 100 before noon. It is a dry out oestrus, though, as they say.Is it a dry heat likewise when the oven is turned on?
I guess I won't complain. Information technology is probably at least 5-10 degrees hotter in Las Vegas or Phoenix.
Modern Is it a dry heat too when the oven is turned on?
I approximate I won't..."
Dry rut is doable. It's when information technology's hot and humid that it'due south yuck.
Yeah, I don't retrieve I could deal with any humidity. I went to Pennsylvania one summer and we had a stop off in Houston...wow...humidity is something I'm not used to at all.
That's why I was and so glad to leave Ontario. Summers are always hot, hot, hot and humid for weeks on finish. Then there are the black flies..
My friend is from a dryer climate. Her brother came to visit. He was laughing at her and calling her a wuss for having air workout. They went out for one-half a twenty-four hours and when they got back he was begging her to turn on the air! Information technology's a town by the river in Iowa. The air gets then thick you lot can cut it with a knife. The weather man said we wear the air.
There are days when our humidity and temperature are the same. But not often, fortunately.

Yes, it did!
Double jeopardy?
I was at the pilus salon yesterday. Another customer brought upward an unsolved murder. It came to mind, my "personal" experience long ago.My orthodontist Robert Glasgal and his wife were brutally murdered in the 1980s.
His eldest son Russell was tried twice for the murders. One was a mistrial, the other acquittal.
My question is Dna is SO much better at present than in the 80s. If they retested the Dna, and establish Russell did indeed practise it, what happens? Double Jeopardy is in play right?
I'm not 100% sure, but I seem to retrieve reading somewhere that if substantial new prove that a person did in fact commit a law-breaking comes to calorie-free, double jeopardy can be overturned and the person re-tried.Just peradventure an LEO or lawyer hither on Goodreads can requite you a definitive answer.
Whatever takers?
I am not a lawyer, but a retired Community Inspector. Double jeopardy cannot exist overturned with new prove unless in that location is jury tampering. I could be wrong about this. I think that prosecutors commonly cull jury tampering charges rather than endeavour to overturn double jeopardy. Withal, criminals tin can be prosecuted in federal court for civil rights violations(run across Rodney Rex case). This is US law. Canada has a carve up rule and does allow a second trial with substantial new testify--extremely rare.

For double jeopardy to attach, you lot'd have to exist charging a D with the same crime nether the same statute nether which he or she was charged the first fourth dimension. New bear witness isn't a basis for avoiding its application. ( you tin can imagine how worthless the bar on retrying and retrying a accused would be if it were otherwise.) If you can find a different statute, yous can avoid double jeopardy. Hence, the search for a federal statute or other criminal statute, to the extent the applicative statute of limitations hasn't tolled.

And, yes, equally Thomas noted, this is US police. The answer is different in many countries.
I would beloved a web site that has these "cold cases". It would be bang-up information technology cases like the one higher up, could be possibly solved. I read somewhere (??) that San Francisco has just received monies to assist in their cold cases. The squad volition be more often than not part time retired cops.At the opposite end of the spectrum:
On Facebook, I get notifications on all the Innocence Project news. (The states) They center on mainly Lifers or Expiry Row inmates who may have been wrongly convicted due to: no Dna at the time, wrong/bad eye-witnesses, bad or illegal police piece of work. Co-ordinate to their web site, 342 have been exonerated, 20 of whom were on expiry row.
Most countries no longer have the death sentence. Only I am curious to detect out if their countries judicial system is as messed up every bit ours.
Wendy wrote: "I would love a web site that has these "cold cases". Information technology would be keen it cases like the i higher up, could be possibly solved. It seems to actually be a true statement.
Well, talking nigh death system, we accept those punishment in my country,Indonesia. It's for people who bring narcotics or have transaction with that stuffs. It seem so naive i suppose while the goverment give that kind punishment to druggers but with other criminals such every bit pedophiles or corruptors, they're just locked them. Really really strange organisation. They're just 'punished' 4 of them last Friday. And actually distressing watching the news from Tv..
Drug dealers are treated more harshly than pedophiles in the U.Southward. too. Maybe information technology's because the constabulary thinks big coin is more of import than children. I don't understand it either.
Trump was stuck in an lift for 30 minutes. LOL! He was with 10 other people. I assume he behaved or nosotros'd accept heard most it. add: link encompass
